Damaged tombstones in Rest in Peace Cemetery a headache for families

Kwa-Thema – Residents with loved ones buried at Rest in Peace Cemetery are urging cattle herders to refrain from allowing their livestock to graze inside the cemetery.
They allege the livestock damage the tombstones and no one wants to take responsibility.
Distraught resident Shadi Skhosana said over the years they have tried to report their plight with no success.
“Unfortunately, because the security fence is damaged, we cannot control the movement of people inside the cemetery.
“We have buried our loved ones, and families work hard to erect these tombstones for their late family members,” she explained.

She added that she was heartbroken recently when she found the tombstones of her mother and grandmother had been damaged.
“It costs money to get these tombstones fixed. Not even government will offer to fix them,” she said.
She is pleading with local leaders and management of the cemetery to take action against this practice as soon as possible before the matter is escalated further.
