Man nabbed for perjury

Kwa-Thema police arrested a 45-year-old man on Saturday for reporting a false hijacking.

Kwa-Thema police arrested a 45-year-old man on Saturday for reporting a false hijacking.
According to Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu from the Tsakani SAPS, the man initially alleged that while he was driving a mini taxi around Kwa-Thema Square, he was approached by a male who needed to be transported to Sharon Park.
“The passenger asked the driver to first go to the corner of Nkosi and Msikinya streets in Kwa-Thema,” explained Mngomezulu.
He alleged that he was paid for the service.

“At the destination in Kwa-Thema, the man claims he was tricked into leaving the vehicle with the passenger and his friend.
“He left and when he came back both men were no longer there. The car was also nowhere to be found,” added Mngomezulu.
He then reported the incident to the police.
The man, however, told the owner of the vehicle he was hijacked by two armed men.
The vehicle was later recovered by SAPS highway patrol in Katlehong with two suspects. The suspects alleged that they bought the vehicle from the so-called victim.

“It is very disturbing to the police that people are taking advantage of the high rate of hijackings, therefore the law will take its course to deal with such people,” said Mngomezulu.
Kwa-Thema station commander Col Mareketle Thobejane welcomed the arrest as it will send a clear message to people who open false cases.
