City manager joins women in uniform operation
A total of 26 warrants of arrest were issued for failure to pay outstanding fines.
Kwatsaduza – On August 12, Ekurhuleni city manager Dr Imogen Mashazi joined women officials from EMPD to facilitate a roadblock in Kwa-Thema, between Vlakfontein Road and Black Road.
This was part of her Women in Uniform initiative. She also acknowledged women working in the emergency department.
The roadblock, which was manned by only women, yielded positive results with three hijacked vehicles impounded on the scene.

Over 70 traffic fines were issued during the roadblock amounting to R38 200.
Twenty-six warrants of arrest were issued for failure to pay outstanding fines on the day amounting to R19 500.
To mark the end of her term in office, Mashazi said when she started the initiative the goal was to empower and place as many women in higher positions in these departments.
She urged women in uniform in the City, including those in the EMPD and Disaster and Emergency Services, to take their jobs seriously as they are at the forefront of enforcing by-laws in the City.

“I am grateful to the team for recording such successes in less than two hours. This demonstrates their determination to fight lawlessness in the streets of our City.
“We must further appreciate the role of these officers as front liners amid the risk brought by Covid-19.
“Words cannot begin to define how grateful we are to these members and other front line staff in the City,” she said.
