Learners march against GBV

Duduza – A group of learners from Mamosa Educational Institute marched to the Duduza Police Station to protest against gender-based violence (GBV) last Friday.
The group chanted slogans against perpetrators of GBV and pleaded with the police not to spare the rod on the abusers.
The march was supported by the Department of Community Safety and the local police.
In support of all the victims of recent GBV incidents, learners rendered poetry items and encouraged the police to be resilient in their fight against crime in general.

Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka, who received their memorandum, further educated the learners about the different types of abuse and crime.
“It is our role as the police to empower the community and learners with information that will help in fighting crime.
“We want to restore faith and trust between the police and the community,” he said.
Manaka urged residents to report all cases of crime to the police.
He explained that if residents fail to report cases, they are only protecting the perpetrators.
