More money to be pumped into Matlala park construction
Over R2-m has been spent and more money is set to be pumped into the project to see to the completion of the biggest park in the region.
Kwa-Thema – The over R20-million Matlala multi-purpose park in Extension Six along Vlakfontein Road in Barcelona is yet to be completed.
The project was approved in 2019’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP) after public participation in the area in 2017.
The first phase of the project started in June 2019 with a R8.6-m budget.
On Monday, MMC for Infrastructure Services Masele Madihlaba visited the park to inspect the progress.
The park has a play area, gym, skateboarding facility, soccer and basketball courts.

He said the metro can’t wait for the park to be officially open so that everyone can enjoy these facilities for free and in a safe environment.

Ward 80 councillor Wilson Busakwe said they are waiting for a R2-m budget to be allocated for the construction of a lapa, guard room, the installation of mast lights and for repairs to the vandalised fence.
“As soon as all these outstanding projects are completed, the park will be handed over to the public.
“This park will provide a space where everything the community needs will be easily available to them,” he said.
