Reservoir project nears completion

Duduza –The completion of the Masetjaba Reservoir will bring relief to Kwatsaduza residents.
The project was initiated by the City of Ekurhuleni in 2019 to increase the average water storage capacity from 24 to 36 hours by June 2022.
On Tuesday, Gauteng Premier David Makhura, with City of Ekurhuleni Mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina, visited the site during their service delivery inspection.

They also made a stop at the swimming pool project, which is under construction, and the Duduza Hall Vaccination Site.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, about 29 reservoirs are being built within Ekurhuleni.
“They are at different levels of development, with some having undergone final stages of testing, while others have been handed over to the City.
“The site of construction for Masetjaba Reservoir and Tower was handed over to the contractor on December 2, 2019, for construction.

“Today, the construction of the reservoir is complete, while work on the water tower and pump station is at 78% and 74% respectively,” explained Dlamini.
The communities and businesses of Ward 87 in Tsakani stand to benefit from the development of the reservoir.
In addition, the reservoir will supply water to a new zone consisting of future developments and a small section of the existing network that is being supplied from the Zulu Water Tower.
This new zone is located on the southern boundary of Brakpan, and the future developments are envisaged within the zonal boundary:
• Tsakani 87
• Tsakani 86A
• Tsakani 86B
• Tsakani X (portion to be supplied by Zulu Tower)
The contract value on this site is at R113-million and the overall construction progress is at 87%.
The City also stated that eight SMMEs supplied services towards this development, including earthworks, security, steel-fixing, erection of tower crane, sealing and steel-manufacturing items. The small and medium enterprises that benefit from the construction of the reservoir and tower are Hlokza Trading, Blast Quest, Diamond Towers Security, Performance Wire, Crane Hoist Equipment, Indelela, Quagga Engineering and Yorkhart.
