Organisations partner up to get children active on Heritage Day

“Our organisation advocates against crime; hence, we must support such good programmes.”

Kwa-Thema – The Ikasi Livukile Youth Organisation and Sports Arts and Culture Against Crime Organisation (SACACO) hosted an active play fun walk on Heritage Day at Bulithando Park.
The event for little ones falls under Spark Active Play, which is a programme under the Ikasi Livukile Youth Organisation and works with children only.

The children were divided into four age groups, two to four years, five years, six to nine years and 10 to 13 years.
There were various activities, from the fun walk and run to active play activities, such as rolling, aerobics, hopping and bowling.

The organisations emphasised that children need to be taught how to be fit from a young age. and that active fun play activities teach children to work together and respect each other.
Lerato Seabi, secretary and spokesperson for the Spark Active Play programme, donated some of the medals she obtained during the period she was an athlete in primary and high school to all participants.

Hopping and running were among the activities played by the children at Bulithando park.

“Being part of the Ikasi Livukile Youth Organisation has been a blessing.
“It was after I met the chairperson of the organisation, Phindile, that we decided to start offering physical activities classes.
“We want to introduce sporting codes that are not popular in our community. We work with children from two years old.
“Not everyone will be successful in terms of school, others will be successful through sports, so we want to sharpen their sports skills from a younger age,” said Seabi, speaking on behalf of the Ikasi Livukile Youth Organisation.

All children received medals to motivate them to never give up on sports.
Winners received gifts and certificates.
Speaking for SACACO, Siphiwe Mtshweni said: “It was important for us to offer our support to this event. When children do sports from a young age, they’ll be busy and not turn to crime.
“Our organisation advocates against crime; hence, we must support such good programmes.”
