Police help replace the fencing palisade at stadium

Kwa-Thema – Palisade fencing inside and outside the Kwa-Thema Stadium has been stripped.
According to the local authorities, the structure was stolen on August 30. The perpetrators were caught by security guards on duty on the day.
On Tuesday, the Kwa-Thema SAPS, along with community members, replaced the fencing palisade with the help of an independent contractor, who fixed the fencing free of charge.

Chairperson of the Sector One policing forum Ellen Lekau said leaving the stadium exposed would attract malicious crimes such as rape, gender-based violence and human trafficking.
“The other concern was that children would utilise the venue without the supervision of any adults. Also, these children can easily go missing because from the streets you can’t see inside the stadium.
“This whole situation was posing a threat to the safety of residents in this area,” she said.
Another issue highlighted during the installation was the non-functioning high mast lights.
Nyakale said when she heard about the matter, she immediately engaged with the security personnel at the stadium.

“What I would like to know is how the fence was stolen while there are security guards on site. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to follow through as I had to take some time off work,” she said.
The police sector manager Sgt Percy Mabanga urged residents to report crimes to law enforcement, including vandalism to public property.
