Local wrestlers to represent at national championships

Tsakani – A local wrestling club is representing the region at the national wrestling tournament currently taking place at Menlo Park Wrestling Club in Pretoria.
The Battle Ground Wrestling Club will be competing at the national tournament until Saturday.
Wrestlers have been divided into three groups for the tournament with the first group starting on Wednesday, the second group on Thursday and the third group on Saturday.

Their last competition will be held towards the end of October in Brakpan as the season comes to an end.
Founder and coach of the club Mpho Madi said the pandemic has disadvantaged them in terms of training.
“To be a national champion is quite hard and needs a lot of dedication and time.
“I think it would have been better if we were able to continue with our training schedule throughout the year. Unfortunately, Covid-19 denied us that opportunity.
“More or less, I feel and ought to remain positive, more especially with our female wrestlers,” she explained.
Sixteen wrestlers from the club are partaking in the tournament, accompanied by one coach and one team manager.
She said the team is excited to be back in action and is looking forward to doing its best, even though it is a bit nervous to be wrestling on one of the biggest stages in South Africa.

“If we can manage to get medals, regardless of what colour, I will be happy.
“That would mean our target of medals at nationals is reached.
“However, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a gold medal in the process, God willingly,” she said.
The club has extended an invitation to community members who would like to join.
Anyone from the age of six, male or female, is welcome.
It trains every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Tsakani Stadium from 15:00 to 17:30.
