Tsakani – Percy Mahlongo Ngcobo (44) was handed 15 years’ direct imprisonment by the Tsakani Reginal Court on Friday for hijacking and possession of a hijacked truck.
Two hijackers confronted the driver of a courier company while he was making deliveries along Nzima Street, Tsakani, on February 2, 2020.
They hijacked the driver and drove off with the vehicle.
While the victim was screaming for help, he saw a passing police vehicle and officers came to his rescue.

Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu said a chase ensued between the police and the hijackers until officers cornered the hijacked vehicle.
One man was arrested while the other fled the scene.
Tsakani SAPS station commander Col Goodall Khumbulani Mbatha said he applauds the detectives, who were led by Det WO Bobe Nene, for compiling a watertight case to ensure the perpetrator is convicted.
“The hard work from Nene in making sure the suspect is convicted and the swift response of Sgt Kabelo Eric Tshetlanyane and Cost Sheron Kubayi on the day of the incident is commendable and professional conduct.
“I am pleased that one criminal is off the streets.”
