Attempt to help leaves man homeless

Duduza – Resident Vusimuzi Sibeko (55) lost his home and personal belongings following an argument between him and someone known to him.

According to Sibeko, the individual involved and his then alleged girlfriend came running into his yard on February 20, in the evening, as he was heading out to quickly grab something to eat.
“I was closing the gate as I had parked my car outside when I saw two people chasing each other.
“The girl then ran inside my yard and on closer look, I realised it was people I knew,” explained Sibeko.
He said his only fault was trying to diffuse the matter by trying to ‘reason’ with the man.

“My fault was telling him that what he was doing was wrong.
“I urged both parties to each go home and try to solve their problems the following day.
“While I was still talking to him the girl managed to run away.”
Sibeko said this infuriated the individual even more as he became more aggressive towards him.
However, he decided to continue with his journey as he had planned.

“I thought leaving him alone would give him time to cool off.
“Unfortunately, a couple of minutes later, I received a call from my neighbour stating that my shack was on fire.
“Luckily, no one was home at the time.
“However, I am left with nothing,” he said.
Duduza Police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka has confirmed that a case of arson and theft has been opened and that the case is currently ongoing at the Nigel Magistrate’s Court.
Sibeko is pleading with the community to lend a helping hand for him to rebuild his shack.
He is currently living with his girlfriend.
