Candidate: Annette Betsie Pienaar
Part: ANC
Ward: 97
Annette Betsie Pienaar has been living in Brakpan for over 25 years.
I raised my children and grandchildren here, and as a former GBV survivor, I felt the need to make a difference in our community, especially since GBV is a pandemic in this country.
For the past few years, I have been working as a ward committee member under the councillor, reporting community problems and giving feedback to the community in the sector of the elderly and vulnerable.
If I were to be elected as the new councillor, I would assist the community with housing, running water and electricity and other amenities.
I will also assist in fighting crime, drug trafficking and corruption by working hand in hand with the community of Brakpan and the CPF.
I will help improve service delivery, health centre, education, job creation and the empowerment of women and the youth.
When elected as the ward councillor, I pledge to do my best on the following:
• Accessible to the community by having monthly community meetings to hear community challenges and report back on progress
• Service delivery champion by being at the forefront in ensuring that the community receives services, including electricity, water, sewer, waste collection, street and high mast lights, tarred roads and fixing of potholes
• Education and skills development, work closely with the community to ensure all children are in school, have access to bursaries, internships and skills development programmes
• Access to better healthcare, ensure that the community has access to healthcare services and access to ambulances
• Sports recreation art and culture. I will work with stakeholders in sports, art and culture in promoting participation from the community at large and especially the youth and children, and also advocate for better facilities
• Local economic development. I will advocate for the participation of the community in spin-off opportunities on infrastructure development projects through jobs and business opportunities
• Community safety. I will work with the community and law-enforcement agencies in fighting and combating crime in the ward.
