Man arrested for slew of charges

Tsakani – As part of the fight against violent crimes, members of the EMPD First Responder Unit arrested a man and recovered three firearms during a routine search.
During a patrol in Geluksdal Road in Tsakani on Wednesday, police spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle with a group of male occupants.
Upon approaching the vehicle, some of the occupants fled, but with the assistance of the SAPS, the driver was apprehended.
Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka said a firearm was found for which the driver could not produce a licence.

“Two more firearms and ammunition were also recovered concealed in other compartments in the same vehicle.
“The vehicle was found to be using false number plates. There were also several bottles of whiskey which were suspected to be stolen,” he explained.
The 34-year-old man is expected to appear in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, tampering with a motor vehicle license, as well as possession of suspected stolen property.
