Local team limping to the finishing line

Kwa-Thema – Springs Home Sweepers FC female team is limping to the finishing line of the Sasol League.
The team is sitting at position seven, having played 29 games, won 13, lost 10 and played to a draw in six games.
They will be playing their last game of the season against the University of Pretoria on Sunday at 15:00 at Kwa-Thema Stadium.
The game was called off last week Wednesday due to rainy weather.
Team coach Mkhonza Mkhonzana said they had a challenging season but had to fight to collect points.

“The games were disrupted by the Covid-19 regulations in July and when we were finally able to start playing again, the players had to start preparing for their exams.
“We had to play eight games in 17 days with 11 players, as some of the players were either writing exams that afternoon or the following morning,” he explained.
The coach added that most of the players are in Grade 12 and the club can’t interfere with their studies since the club is hoping that they perform well to be awarded bursaries for tertiary education.
“There are no formal women’s football leagues in the country. The only way for them to secure a brighter future is through education,” he added.
The team is hoping to do better next season.
