Youngsters called to join boxing club

“We are seeing fewer girls taking interest in the sport. This is a concern because we believe they think that boxing is only for boys.”

Kwa-Thema – Scorpion Boxing Club has opened its doors and is inviting interested boxers to join.
The club offers training Mondays to Fridays from 16:00 at the Kwa-Thema Community Hall.
Club founder Hazert Hlophe said over the years, it has been identified that the sport has a positive impact on young children.
“We are able to channel their energy into a sport that keeps them away from the street corners.
“Many are now disciplined and dedicated to improving their lives,” he explained.
Hlophe encouraged girls to also join the sport.

“We are seeing fewer girls taking interest in the sport. This is a concern because we believe they think that boxing is only for boys.
“We want to remove this stereotype. We plan to groom and develop a world-renowned female boxer, but we are not able to achieve that goal if they are not taking an interest,” he added.
The coach added that his intentions are to groom young people in his community to be model citizens and the champions they are destined to be.
He is appealing to local business people to help with donations for equipment and funds to attend matches.
