Zamani informal settlements finally get power
The electrification project is set to light up over 1 000 households and has created over 100 temporary jobs, according to the metro.

Electric poles in some parts have already been installed.

Other areas where electricity has been installed include Duduza North informal settlement, Emandleni informal settlement, Ekuthuleni informal settlement, Mayfield Extension Six (Zenzele) and Ramaphosa informal settlement.
The metro said the project is set to be complete by March.
Resident Zolani Magwaza said, “I cannot wait to have access to a proper supply of electricity in my house without having to buy electricity illegally from our neighbours, who have been assisting with power for basic needs, such as powering up the refrigerator,” said Magwaza.
The City has budgeted R1.05-billion in the current financial year for the electrification of informal settlements.
