
Kwa-Thema – A gang of armed men looted a store at the corner of 2nd Street and 1st Avenue in Springs of shoes and clothing on Tuesday morning.
The shopkeeper was busy in the cashier’s office when he noticed a man approaching him.
He immediately suspected it to be a robbery and reached for his gun but the man cautioned him not to move and pointed a gun at his head.
The shopkeeper was disarmed of his firearm along with its ammunition.
Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Const Nkululeko Magudulela said the store was robbed of about R5 000 and R1 500 from the shopkeeper. The gang of around 10 or more looted the store of shoes and clothing with an estimated value close to R200 000.

In another incident in Daggafontein, Springs, a security guard at the old Benoni Gold Mine was robbed of his belongings along with mining equipment.
The guard was on duty at the tower when at about 22:00 he reported hearing footsteps outside the tower.
He noticed two men in the darkness who quickly vanished from sight. He later heard them walking up the tower stairs, and immediately called his manager and pressed the panic button.
Three intruders, one of whom was armed with a firearm and the other with a knife, forced their way into the tower and robbed the guard of his cellphone and cash.
The guard alleged that when his manager arrived after the robbers had left, it was discovered they had made their way to the weighbridge and fled with a solar battery, radiator and copper cable all valued at R40 000.
Magudulela added that no one has been arrested and police are calling on anyone with information about the robbers’ whereabouts to come forward.
