Mother and daughter die from suspected poisoning

Mother and daughter died after allegedly consuming tea laced with poison.

Kwa-Thema – Police have opened an inquest docket and a case of murder after a 35-year-old woman and her daughter (5) died on Wednesday night after allegedly ingesting poison.
The deceased’s nine-year-old son is recovering in hospital.
It is suspected the trio consumed tea laced with rat poison.

Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Constable Nkululeko Magudulela said the girl was rushed to the local clinic complaining of stomach cramps and was later certified dead on arrival.
The mother also collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where she died.
A case of murder is being investigated and police are awaiting autopsy results.
“The deceased’s son survived after not having ingested a large quantity of the alleged poison,” he added.
