Local police encourage women to speak out against GBV

Tsakani – Teachers and police joined in celebrating Women’s Month at Langaville Primary School on Friday.
During the event, Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu educated the attendees about different forms of abuse and the importance of reporting cases to the police.
“We are encouraging women to stand up and report the cases to the police to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and held accountable for their actions by law.
“We are also encouraging the victims not to withdraw their cases after registering them with the police,” she explained.

Mngomezulu emphasised that not only men are perpetrators of abuse but also women.
“Before the law of this country, the process and the verdict for those women who are found guilty of abusing men will be the same as of men.
“We also encouraged young women to get educated to be independent to prevent staying in abusive relationships.
“Those who are socio-economic balanced should not buy love with their assets and lives,” added Mngomezulu.
