Foundation celebrates value of women
Masimong Foundation celebrated Women's Day with the mothers of some of their learners.
Kwa-Thema – Masimong Foundation joined women across the country in celebrating Women’s Day.
A group of women who are parents of learners attending extra lessons for accounting, mathematics and science at the foundation attended the celebration hosted at the Riverside Country Estate.
They tackled issues of mental health, hope, healing and basic first aid.
The foundation’s founder, Sandi Teke, said they aimed to encourage women and remind them of their self-worth and the important roles they play in their families and the community.
“It is said that women are not protecting their mental health by seeking treatment after experiencing symptoms of mental illness.
“This is due to the stigma attached to mental illnesses, yet they are more likely to have mental health conditions that are made worse by stress, such as depression or anxiety,” she explained.

She added that women sometimes tend to doubt themselves and their abilities.
“We forget as a gender we are unique and with that, we bring unique qualities that vary from one woman to another. This uniqueness needs to be celebrated and harnessed every day,” she explained.
Teke added that women needed to remember that there is a spotlight for everyone and they all need to support, encourage and acknowledge one another because together they are formidable.
“We are gracious, strong, fierce, beautiful in and out and gifted, but most of all unstoppable – and that is something we should never forget. As we commemorate the fearless women that liberated us in 1956, may we never forget them,” added the founder.
