Women in uniform celebrated
Female law enforcement officers manned the road as part of Operation Basadi on Friday.
Duduza – Women in law enforcement joined the rest of the country in celebrating Women’s Month.
They participated in Operation Basadi, a crime prevention operation conducted by only women on Friday.
This was in partnership with Women as Safety Promoters, Gender-Based Violence brigades, Community Policing Forum, and Youth Desk.
The operation unfolded in three phases. Visible community policing was carried out at the corner of Ndudula Street.
Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka explained that they identified this as a crime hotspot in the area due to a series of violent crimes reported in recent months.

“During the campaign, they stopped and searched about 150 vehicles and about 400 people,” he added.
The second phase of the initiative was carried out at Esibonelwesihle Secondary School.
The team was joined by the Department of Health and Department of Education where police motivated learners against GBV, bullying, drugs and gangsterism.
The third phase of the programme was in the form of a crime awareness drive in a motorcade.
Manaka added that the team visited hotspots and businesses alerting the community to crime trends.
During the operation, five traffic fines were issued for various offences and about 700 people were reached.
