Kwa-Thema – Legendary pop musician Joe Nina was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the SAMAs on Sunday night, held at Sun City.
The award recognises legendary musicians who contributed to the development, upliftment, and advancement of the South African music industry for over two decades.
He won the award with jazz giants Jimmy Dludlu and McCoy Mrubata.
The 48-year-old from Kwa-Thema explained that this is one of the 14 awards he has won since he joined the music scene.
“I have won three SAMA awards in Best African Pop Album (2000 and 2001) and Best Alternative African Music Album (2010). This one is closest to his heart.
“This is a special award for me, I am grateful that I received it when I am still alive.
“Not every artist in South Africa is celebrated while they are still alive; I will forever be grateful that South Africa gave me my roses while I am still alive and able to smell them,” he added.
