Police concerned about criminal activities in schools
Alcohol, drugs and other contraband found at Esser Maloka Secondary School.
Duduza – Police are concerned about increasing criminal elements in local schools.
This is after the members of the police, CPF, a councillor and other stakeholders found drugs, cans of alcohol and a toy gun at Esser Maloka Secondary School during a school safety campaign.
Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka said the objects were found on the floor and outside the windows indicating they were dumped when they identified the presence of the police.
“Unfortunately, no one could be linked to the objects but we are working with the schools to fight these criminal elements,” he added.
Ward 86 Clr Nsizwa Mekgwe said he is concerned about how local schools are becoming unsafe for teachers and learners.
“Our school grounds have turned into playgrounds for gangs who are terrorising learners and disturbing learning.
“We are urging parents and teachers to come forward and join the fight to uproot this trend before it gets out of hand and they spill into our communities,” he added.
