Alarming number of criminal cases withdrawn in Kwa-Thema
371 criminal cases were withdrawn during the April -June quarter at Kwa-Thema police station.
Kwa-Thema- Major General Anna Sithole is concerned about the high number of criminal cases which are withdrawn by the victims at Kwa-Thema Police Station.
She was speaking during the district Okae Molao Operation held along Kwa-Thema Road on Thursday morning.
There were 371 criminal cases that were withdrawn during the April to June quarter.
Sithole said she is concerned that the victims are now withdrawing serious crimes like rape and house robberies.
“This is a waste of state resources, which could have been used to fight crime elsewhere.
“We are encouraging the victims to register the cases and allow the law courts to take their course,” she said.

Sithole added that withdrawing the cases doesn’t remedy the matter but only allows the perpetrator another chance to commit more crimes.

The statistics for the quarter show a decrease in crime, especially contact crimes and sexual offences.
“We still sit with car hijackings, murder, attempted murder, assault GBH and theft.”
Sithole urged women at taverns not to drink themselves into a stupor and not be aware of what is happening around them.
Kwa-Thema has a lot of taverns in the East Rand, with three illegally operated taverns closed down.
Officials have been appointed to follow up on the closed taverns to ensure that they don’t re-open.
If they attempt to re-open they will be charged accordingly.
