New site identified to build Kwa-Thema police station
General Sithole confirms site identifies has been identified to build Kwa-Thema Police Station,
Kwa-Thema- Major General Anna Sithole has confirmed that a site finally been identified to build Kwa-Thema Police Station.

Sithole told African Reporter that the Department of Infrastructure Development is currently conducting a feasibility study on the identified land.
“As soon as the feasibility study is done and we are given the thumbs up, the department will start with the construction.
“We are prioritising this matter as the current building is unsafe for the employees,” she explained.
The offices were confirmed unsafe five years ago and some of these offices were closed by the Department of Labour. In places the ceiling is falling off, the roof is leaking, and rainwater damaging important documents and electrical faults.
The bathrooms are not functional and officers are forced to use those of their neighbours or go home to relieve themselves.
Some of the abandoned buildings within the station are now used by homeless people.
The police station had no holding cells for 12 years, ever since the station was declared unfit for human habitation by the Human Rights Commission. They have since been using those of Springs Police Station or Tsakane Police Station.

DA spokesperson for Community Safety and MPL, Ruhan Robinson, said the station’s canteen has been converted into a Community Service Centre to service residents after the office was shut down by the Department of Labour.
The story broke in September 2018 when police officers decided to move their offices to the state vehicle after they were given indemnity forms to sign to use their offices.
In November 2018, residents picketed outside the police station, threatening that they would not stop until top SAPS and government officials addressed promises to build a new facility.
Meetings by top officials were held, but not much came out of them until they came to a dead halt.
“Minister of Police Bheki Cele and the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko cares little about our police station’s infrastructure and the terrible working conditions that our police officers are exposed to daily.
“We will continue putting pressure until a new building is found to accommodate the police officers while the department decides what to do.
“The community of Kwa-Thema cannot afford to not have adequate police services,” he explained.
