Men invited to a wellness clinic

The event will take place at Kwa-Thema Main Clinic on Saturday.

Kwa-Thema – In observing Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the cancer support group CanSurvive, has partnered with the Kwa-Thema Main Clinic for a wellness clinic aimed at men.
The event will take place on Saturday from 08:00 and the public is invited to attend.
On the day men will be screened for diabetes, HIV, and high blood pressure and tested for the prostate-specific antigen (PSA).
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men.
Counselling will be provided by prostate cancer survivors and members of the CanSurvive organisation, Mandla Zondo.
“I am urging men to attend the event as it will be informative and educational.
“I will be explaining step by step what the prostate is, where it is located and the complications of cancer. Also, I will explain in detail the different stages of prostate cancer,” said Zondo.

He emphasised the importance of testing, stating that the earlier it is detected the higher the possibility of it being managed or cured.
Men are advised to look out for symptoms such as urination problems, backache, swollen joints and poor sexual performance.
When he was diagnosed with cancer eight years ago, he said his bravery and the support of his family played a huge role in his recovery.
“I lost my brother to cancer in 2013, so by then, I knew what it was.
“It didn’t shock me when I learned that I had it.
“People must be brave and go for health screenings regularly, as this is for their good,” he explained.
He is encouraging people to adopt a healthy lifestyle such as exercising, eating vegetables and fruits daily and avoiding fatty foods and alcohol.
