Angry residents continue to protest over poor service delivery in Geluksdal

Tsakani – Services, access to Geluksdal and schooling at Geluksdal Secondary School have been disrupted by angry residents since Friday.

An angry mob demanded that the Geluksdal Secondary School principal and the SGB be removed immediately on Friday due to alleged poor discipline in the school.
The community has been experiencing a spate of protests for two months over poor service delivery, poor infrastructure in schools, poor services at the clinics and free electricity.
This is after the metro reduced the free 100 electricity units for indigents.
On Monday afternoon, residents marched to the Tsakani CCC offices where they handed over their memorandum of grievances to the cluster relation manager, Rebokile Motaung.
An angry resident, Dannie October, told the African Reporter that they are going to fight until all their grievances are addressed.

“This is our community, the only people who can bring back order in the area are us and we will fight until someone hears our pleas. We cannot continue subjecting our children to a school environment that is not safe,” she added.
Another resident, Nomsa Nkosi, added that all they want is to be treated like any other community in Ekurhuleni.
“Our problems are not taken seriously and we are expected to continue as if all is well.”
Tsakani SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu confirmed that three people were arrested for public violence and will appear before the Tsakani Magistrates Court soon.
Ward 82 Clr Henry Buitendacht said a petition was submitted to MMC Dino Paterson, who was deployed to address the challenges in the area.
“I am encouraging the residents to reach out to me if they are not happy with anything concerning service delivery, my door is always open,” he added.
