Mayor Campbell appoints new MMCs

Kwatsaduza – Since they took office 11 months ago, the multi-party coalition party in Ekurhuleni has seen three leadership changes.

First, it was the MMC of Finance and Economic Development, Graham Gersbach who was followed by the MMC of Cooperate and Shared Services Ruhan Robinson.
On Friday, Mayor Tania Campbell removed the Patriotic Alliance MMCs Dino Peterson and Bakang Lethoko.
The two were replaced by Mabekenyane Thamahane (human settlements) and Charlotte Zitha (health and social development).

Zitha occupied the same position for a month before she was removed in January.
In a statement released by the metro, Campell said they have made great inroads at delivering on the promises made to residents in the State of the City Address earlier this year.
“This is in the interest of improving service delivery and ensuring that we continue to fulfil our mandate,” she said.
Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie said the DA mayor in Ekurhuleni has decided to remove PA councillors from the mayoral committee.
“We want to thank her for the time our councillors served on her committee and our councillors accept her decision,” he said.
Zitha said it feels good to be reinstated in her position.

“I will use the resources and skills I acquired from working on the ground as a PR councillor to improve services for the residents of Ekurhuleni.
“She urged Ekurhuleni residents, especially businesses, to join hands to help improve the metro,” she said.
Speaking during an interview, ANC spokesperson, Lesiba Mpya said the removal of the PA leaders shows that there is instability in the metro.
“Political parties are in talks with us to find a lasting solution to the leadership of the metro.
“We will be submitting a motion of no confidence against the mayor and hoping to sit in November,” he added.
