Masimini teacher receives certificate at teachers’ awards

The local teacher obtained the third position at the provincial level.

Kwa-Thema – Masimini Primary School teacher Boitumelo Mfene received a certificate at the Excellence in Primary School Teaching Awards last Wednesday.

The Grade Six and Seven teacher secured a third position at the ceremony.

She teaches English, life skills and creative arts.

“The school nominated me and then we had to write a motivational letter and submit supporting documents to the department as to why I should win.

I also had to conduct various interviews with different people.

Association honours former teachers

“They considered the teaching methods I apply and my relationship with other teachers,” explained Mfene.

She said being an initiator and an active teacher contributed to her success.

“I am over the moon; still pinching myself because of the disbelief. Not only was I the youngest candidate at the ceremony but I believe my innovative teaching methods are what stood out for the panel.

I have started a book and Soul Buddyz Club as well,” she added.

She began teaching at Masimini Primary School in 2017 and explained that she is driven by her passion to teach.

“I had the opportunity to visit the Netherlands in my last year of university. It taught me a lot about my profession.

Awards boost community morale

Some of the things I learnt there I still apply in my classroom.

“I don’t mind dressing up in different characters for educational purposes,” she said.

The school deputy principal, Monamodi Galeboe, said they are proud of her achievement and would like to encourage her to keep up with the good work.

Mfene has also contributed funds to some of the school’s former learners’ matric dances.
Her dream is to teach abroad.
