Victim of abuse fears for her life
Thuli Ngwenya braved years of abuse at the hands of the father of her children.
Duduza- Thuli Ngwenya (30) is living in fear after her ex-boyfriend continued to terrorise her while in police custody.
In images he sent to her from the police holding cells, he can be seen enjoying a takeaway, dagga and cigarettes – items which, according to SAPS, are prohibited in the cells.
He was detained after he allegedly assaulted her and burned her with a hot iron on her face and body.
Ngwenya was rescued by her sister and police from the man’s bedroom where he locked her in.
She believes that her former partner was receiving favours from someone working at the police station.

“He was living like a king in the police holding cells. He was making phone calls the whole time and also threatened my life.
“He also forwarded me the photos he took inside the holding cells boasting about it,” she added.
She added that the investigating officer handed her a J88 form which did not contain all the details from SAPS.
“The hospital raised questions about this and I was told that they could not assist me until the investigating officer signed the form.
Police say sexual violence cases are increasing
“The officer told me that he was under the impression that I was not serious about opening the case because this was the second time I opened a case of assault and I had dropped the charges the first time,” she added.
Ngwenya said she is now living in fear.
Duduza SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka confirmed a case of assault is being investigated.
“The suspect was arrested and released on bail. We are encouraging the victim to open additional cases of intimidation against the suspect.
“We are investigating how outside food made its way into his cells. Cigarettes and dagga are also not allowed in the police holding cells,” he added.
