Kwa-Thema residents fed up with bad smell from dumpsite

The community feels the dumpsite will cause illnesses.

Kwa-Thema- The community of Ward 77 held a peaceful march on Friday to draw attention to an unhealthy odour coming from the Rietfontein landfill site.
The community marched to the dumpsite to submit a memorandum of grievances.

According to the memorandum, the odor has been affecting the community for the past 15 years and the community would like it to stop.
Part of the community’s grievances is that the bad smell from the site will cause them illnesses.

“We have given the management of this dumpsite seven days to respond to our grievances and if not the community will shut it down,” said Ward 77 Clr Thulani Dunjane.
The community vowed to return to the dumpsite on Friday.
