Tsakani – Residents are warned to stop illegal dumping in the area.
This was after the community of Ward 83 had a clean-up campaign on Friday.
The cleaning was done at Centre Park near Tsakane Primary School.

According to the ward councillor Slindokuhle Pike, there is no reason why people should dump, as rubbish is collected every Wednesday.
“We found mostly building rubble from the houses renovated over the festive season and cut grass.
“The rubbish made the school and the nearby church look dirty. Children had to take a different and longer route to school and cars couldn’t pass,” said Pike.

Residents around the park could no longer open their windows due to the stench and flies from the rubbish.
“We received help from the school, who has since committed to getting their patrollers to keep guard in the area. Residents also took it upon themselves to punish those who will dump in the area,” said Pike.
Pike said some residents use nyaope addicts to take their wheelie bins to dump at a fee of R20. The community will take the rubbish and dump it at these owners’ houses if and when they are caught.
“We are going to open a car wash for the interested youth to keep busy, which will also assist with keeping the area clean. If the area is kept clean, people will be ashamed to dump on it,” concluded Pike.
