900 smoke alarm detectors to be installed Ekurhuleni
Smoke alarm detectors will be installed in households in Ekurhuleni.
Kwatsaduza – Gauteng COGTA Provincial Fire Services will be running a pilot project to install smoke alarm detectors in the Makausi informal settlement in Germiston.
This will be done in collaboration with the City of Ekurhuleni DEMS and the South African National Tuberculosis Association.
The project aims to minimise and reduce the outbreak of fires throughout the seasons in formal and informal settlements with a particular focus on high–risk areas within the Gauteng province.
: Safety at intersections during load-shedding
The pilot project seeks to minimise shack fire damage through early detection as South Africa experiences over 5 000 shack fires per year according to the Fire Protection Association of Southern Africa.
Nine-hundred smoke alarm detectors will be installed in 900 households chosen by community leaders from February 14 to 17.
Smoke alarm detectors timeously alert unsuspecting households of fires in their dwellings and lives and property can be saved.
