Tsakani – Gauteng SAPS commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela led a multi-disciplinary Operation Okae Molao in Tsakani on Saturday.
He was joined by senior SAPS management and other law enforcement agencies.
Tsakani police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu said the operation aimed at stamping out crime.
“Fifty-three suspects were arrested during the campaign,” she said.
“There were 24 illegal migrants nabbed, 14 people arrested for drunken driving and six detained for selling liquor.
“Three suspects were also arrested for possession of drugs, two for dealing in dagga, two for dealing with nyaope and one suspect for possession of cocaine.”
Mngomezulu added the suspects are expected to appear in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court soon.
