The EFF is called out for acting outside the collective mayoral committee executive.
Kwatsaduza – The wheels are coming off in the ANC-EFF coalition in the City of Ekurhuleni.
On Tuesday, the chief whip of council, Jongizizwa Dlabathi, lashed out at the MMC of Finance and ITC, Nkululeko Dunga, for calling a meeting with service providers contracted to the metro.
Dlabathi spoke at a media briefing held in Germiston on Tuesday.
The EFF raised concerns about the city’s finances and assets at a media briefing attended by five EFF MMCs. This was deemed as “acting outside of the collective mayoral committee executive” by the ANC.
In recent months, contractors were forced to withdraw services to the metro after months of their invoices going unpaid.

Dlabathi said his party is worried about how some of the issues are raised and handled in the public domain, with the potential to undermine the municipality’s standing.
“Parties holding executive responsibilities in the mayoral committee use internal avenues available at their disposal to seek accountability, information and clarity.
“Political oversight on departments, as well as various related matters, must be exercised with due care, objectively. We must not be irresponsible,” he said.
Dlabathi added that all parties to the collaborative governance arrangement had a responsibility to preserve the institution’s integrity while addressing service delivery deficiencies.
“In doing so, we must desist from uttering unfounded statements about the state of the city and its affairs without proper verification of facts.
“We are not in an arrangement of the sub-mayoral committee, but a collective mayoral committee.
“Not a single MMC of the 10 is above the other. There is a trend of wanting to create a supergroup within the mayoral committee,” he added.
The chief whip lashed out that they did not support the election of a “Bloempot Mayor”, therefore, Executive Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana must rise to the occasion.
The mayor must take charge, steer and direct the municipal programme as articulated by him during the State of the City Address, and anything outside these priorities must be undermined.
