Zaza empowers young women

Zanele Mokhethi to record her Woman in Chronicle Chapter two in August.

Kwa-Thema – Celebrated gospel musician Zanele “Zaza” Mokhethi will be live recording her second Woman in Chronicle Chapter Two in August.

This will include all the 22 young women in gospel she has been mentoring across the country in her Woman in Chronicle initiative.

The initiative was born last April to help young women find their feet in the gospel industry with the help of the award-winning gospel musician.

Zaza said having joined the industry at a young age she always wished for someone with experience to hold her hand and guide her.

“I had to swim in the deep end to find my way especially the business side of the industry which includes interpreting contracts which can be the beginning and end of a musician’s career.

“Our industry is male-dominated and women often struggle to find their feet and end up being vulnerable to vultures in the industry.”

She has, over the years, seen talented musicians losing all that they have worked hard for because they tied themselves to contracts that only benefit everyone but themselves.

Through this initiative, she believes the new batch of gospel artists venturing into the industry will be better armed.

To date, the Namhla Nkosi hitmaker has worked with 22 young women from five provinces, Mpumalanga, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo and North West.

She offers her experience and insight about the industry, including the business skills side of the industry and training on contracts.

“As gospel musicians, we are expected to act and dress in a dignified manner. The way you carry yourself is very important if you want to support and sell your music.

The musician will be live recording the second Woman in Chronicle Chapter Two with all the 22 young women under her tutelage in August.

This is where they will show off their skills and talent on stage and also share it with the world.

Zaza added that she is proud of the young women who reached out for her hand as this is only the beginning of women of all ages empowering one another.
