Newbies in the Tsamaya League are doing well in the Siyadlala Cup tourney
The new teams, Ayeye and Umzumbe, are doing well in this tournament,.
Kwa-Thema – The Tsamaya League went on a two-week season break because of the Siyadlala Cup, which takes place from July 9 to August 27.
The cup is a 16-team knockout tournament that gives all teams in the league a chance to participate.
The Tsamaya general treasurer, Dumisani Dlamini, said, “We have reached our halfway mark of the league and kicked it off with the Siyadlala Cup, whereby all 16 teams get a chance to compete, unlike the Top Eight Cup that is reserved only for the top eight teams.”
Dlamini compared this to the Nedbank Cup and said it was a cup of surprises and shocks.
“It is dubbed ‘small fishes eat big fishes’, which we have witnessed. It also allows teams to beef up and sign new players for the grilling second round of the league, with its finishing line in December,” he explained.
He said the winners usually took home a trophy and 20 gold medals, the runners-up got 20 silver medals, and the third place got 20 bronze medals.
“The exco did magic and surprised the teams by throwing in a sheep for the winners.
“We noticed this old-school reward is popular with teams because it brings cohesion and a positive vibe to the league and, ultimately, to the outright winners.

“It is important to highlight that the new teams, Ayeye and Umzumbe, are doing well in this tournament,” he concluded.
Four groups in the tournament have one round before moving to the top eight.
Umzumbe FC leads Group B with six points, and Ayeye FC is on top of Group D, also with six points.
The tournament will continue on Sunday at the Ntokozweni and Tlakula Grounds.
