Kwa-Thema coach to work with the legendary Isaac Shai
After working as a volunteer at the department of sports Thabang Simelane get a chance to work with one pf the soccer legends with his team.
Kwa-Thema – A young coach from Kwa-Thema, Thabang Simelane, will get an opportunity to work with legendary Mamelodi Sundowns player Isaac Shai during the Kay Motsepe School Soccer Tournament.
The tournament started on August 16. Thabang is the head coach of the Tlakula High School soccer team.
Speaking to African Reporter, Thabang said he formally requested Shai to mentor him and work with him during the tournament.
“I was happy when he responded to my plea to work with the boys. I am honoured and excited for the opportunity as this will help improve my skills through the well of knowledge from the legend.
“His experience will come in handy for me. This is the kind of help I need to grow and improve as a coach,” he said.
Thabang said he used to be a soccer player during his high school years.
“I started as a player at Sanders United then went to play for Valencia FC, but in 2021 I stopped playing because I was in matric at Tlakula High School.
“In 2022 I worked for LoveLife dealing with young active groundbreakers within the community,” he added.
Thabang stated that LoveLife transformed his life by providing him with the chance to volunteer at the Department of Sport, where he crossed paths with many sports legends.

According to the young coach, one of many reasons that made him go into coaching was the alarming number of young boys battling drug addiction and substance abuse in his community.
“I knew that becoming a coach can help me help bring change to young people in the community and I wanted to play my part in helping them,” he said.
Thabang said his dream is to work or coach any developing academy or team within the Ekurhuleni region.
