WATCH: Cops arrest 11 Gold One miners during violent protest (UPDATE)

Striking miners to face disciplinary hearings.

Eleven striking Gold One miners affiliated to AMCU have been arrested following a violent protest outside the mine’s main entrance on Sunday and Monday.

Armed with axes, knobkerries and petrol bombs, the miners went head on with the police.

Police had to use teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the miners.

During the strike on Sunday night, a car belonging to a NUM shop steward was set alight.

SAPS provincial spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that 11 people have been arrested for public violence and malicious damage to property after one vehicle was torched.
