Kwa-Thema father who allegedly raped his daughter has been denied bail
The matter was reported to the police in October.
Kwa-Thema – The Springs Magistrate’s Court last Friday denied bail to the 58-year-old father accused of raping his 24-year-old daughter for over 18 years.
The angry mob of residents who have been supporting the victim breathed a sigh of relief after magistrate Matwadia Muhammad made his ruling.
Residents submitted a petition pleading with the court not to release the suspect on bail for the safety of the victim and children in the area. Since the incident was reported to the police, the victim has been living with neighbours.
It is alleged the father started raping her when she was six years old. She informed her mother who confronted the suspect but he assaulted her and threatened their lives.
The mother later moved out and filed for divorce.

She died in 2009 leaving the victim with her aunt who then died in July 2020.
She was then forced to move back with the father as he was the only surviving guardian.
It is alleged that the suspect started sexually violating her, especially at night when he was drunk threatening her life should she disclose this to anyone. Resident Maria Skhosana said she is happy the court decided to deny the suspect bail.
“This will also send a serious message to others. We have challenges of rape with suspects being released on bail soon after they were arrested.
“The suspect will plead his case while behind bars. We are tired of our children and women not feeling safe in their own home and communities,” she added.
