EMPD teaches road safety at schools

Social Crime Prevention Unit officers made their presence felt in Duduza schools.

Duduza- EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit officers embarked on school transport and scholar patrol exercises at Dan Radebe, Roseview and Zakheni Primary schools on January 25.
The officers started the programme with these two critical school exercises as part of a back-to-school road safety awareness campaign.
This initiative checked for compliance with the National Road Traffic Act of 93/96’s standards.
Learners had a once-in-a-lifetime experience conducting and controlling traffic in the process.
Officers also stopped mini-buses driving learners to inspect vehicle roadworthiness and driver fitness because the overloading of passengers has become the norm in school transportation.
Officers assisted learners with other activities, such as crossing the road safely and stressed the importance of using pedestrian crossings.
The EMPD will continue to roll out these programmes and engagements throughout the CoE.
