Taking a stand against bullying

Learners from different schools participated in a fun walk

Kwa-Thema – After noticing s number of bullying cases in schools, the Thabang Xaba Foundation hosted an anti-bullying fun walk on Saturday.

Attendees sang while walking towards Bulithando Park.

The 2km walk started at the Kwa-Thema CCC via Nkosi and Kgaswane streets towards Bulithando Park where there were speeches and activities.
Learners from different schools were part of the walk and were accompanied by the Crime Prevention Wardens (CPW) and other stakeholders from Ke Moja, Love Life, Shout It Now and Learner Support Agents (LSA).
The foundation’s spokesperson, Khotso Makoloane said, “We are intervening at different schools as an organisation as we saw that there is a number of bullying cases at schools.”
He said they want to educate learners to protect each other and have the spirit of humility.

“Last year, there were cases of gangsterism in high schools where learners grouped themselves to fight others from other schools and we have to fight such,” Makoloane said.
Makoloane said they went to a number of schools last year and they realised that due to bullying, many learners went through depression, anxiety and also had suicidal thoughts.
“We started this year with this walk so that we are able to speak to a number of you to be able to educate others that bullying is wrong,” he concluded.

LSA Gauteng East District supervisor Mohau Msimango said, “We are here to support the initiative as the LSA because we go through such with learners on a daily basis. We notice the bullying and the bad effects of it regularly.”
She said as the LSA they work a lot with the foundation especially when they have awareness programmes, they invite them to be part.
