JST Valentine beat GIS Academy 2-1
The teams competed in the Gold One Development League which kicked off on May 25.
JST Valentine U19 team won against GIS Academy in a game that ended with 2-1. This Gold One Development League game took place on Saturday at Duduza Stadium.
JST’s captain, Lebohang Skhosana scored the first goal five minutes into the game.
The first fifteen minutes of the game were described as ‘tough’ by the team’s coach, Nhlakanipho Tshabalala as both teams tried but missed many goals. Shortly before halftime, GIS Academy scored the equaliser delivered by Mzamani Mabaso.
“I enjoyed the way the boys played; we had our chances, we were just not clinical enough in the final third of the pitch,” said Luleko Dlamini, GIS Academy’s coach.
When the second half came, both teams missed multiple goal-scoring opportunities until GIS’ captain, Thabiso Nyofane received a yellow card. JST scored the penalty placing them in the lead position once again.
“He is an emotional player who believes in perfection. He played the man instead of playing the ball and that got him a yellow card,” Dlamini said.
Of the changes, JST made was substituting Thando Tshabalala with Thabang Mthethwa. The game ended in a win for JST Valentine.
Dlamini outlined how the game went, saying he was proud of how the boys played.
He recalled the critical moments his team missed, stating while in the 18 area, the boys would knock the ball but fail to shoot.
“They would reset and lose the ball. Those instances happened a lot. We could have scored two or three,” he said.
He praised his team for the way they played saying they have adopted the European way of playing.
“Our game is high press; we flood the mid and hope for the best. Unfortunately, the boys were not clinical enough in this game. We left gaps and JST utilized their chances,” he added.
JST’s coach and assistant coach both expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the club played.
“The central defence tried to deflect goals and create changes but struggled.
“Many of our players have left to compete in tournaments so there was a shortage. I hope for unity in our next game,” Tshabalala said.
Earlier that day, JST Valentine’s beat GIS Academy 3-0 in a heated league game. Ntokozo Ndaba scored all three goals. Ndaba expressed her happiness, claiming it was the first time she scored a hat trick.
