CoE urges traders to complete registration by December 13

Any of these businesses that fail to register or do not meet the health standards will face closure.

As part of the CoE’s ongoing registration drive for spaza shops and food-handling traders, owners are reminded to register their businesses before the closing date of December 13.

Business owners can find help at their nearest Customer Care Centres between 08:00 and 16:30, Monday to Friday.

To register, spaza shop and food-handling business owners must submit their completed applications with all the necessary documents at the designated Customer Care Centre.

Business licences will be issued to qualifying businesses in line with the Business Act (Act 71 of 1991). These businesses must meet the following minimum requirements for registration:

• Completed business license application;

• Appropriate zoning certificate or written consent approval;

• Certificate of Acceptability (health standards);

• Approved building plan and occupancy certificate;

• Certified copy of the title deed or letter from the landlord if not owned;

• Identity document (for SA residents);

• Work permit or letter from the Department of Home Affairs (for non-SA residents);

• Registration with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC);

• Latest municipal account statement for the business address;

• Tax clearance certificate from SARS.

• Kwa-Thema Civic Centre, corner Moeshoeshoe and Tshaka streets – advisor Tebogo Mashaba.

• Springs Civic Centre, corner South Main Reef and Plantation roads, ground floor rates hall – advisor Thabiso Malatje.

• Tsakani Civic Centre, 10890 Nzima Street – advisor Lindokuhle Masiko
