Former Phelang learner to run Comrades Marathon

Kwa-Thema runner Bashin is living his dream as he prepares for the Comrades Marathon

Former Phelang School learner Simphiwe ‘Bashin’ Swelankomo has qualified to compete in the Comrades Marathon.

In 1995, Swelankomo qualified to participate in the Special Olympics in the United States. That was not the only international opportunity presented to him over the years.

Yet his heart remains set on making it to the finish line of the Comrades Marathon. At 49 years old, the avid athlete will finally have his shot.

He trains with the Komani Runners Club in Queenstown.
