Zakheni Primary donates food to Nigel NGO supporting vulnerable children

As part of their Mandela Day outreach, Zakheni Primary School in Duduza donated food to Nigel Caring Community, which serves daily meals to vulnerable children - including some of the school’s own learners.

Duduza – Zakheni Primary School donated food products to Nigel Caring Community (NCC) last Friday. The NGO provides meals to the community from Monday to Friday, and some of Zakheni’s learners eat there every day after school. Their excitement at the donation was expressed in song and dance.

Lorraine Dladla, a social auxiliary worker from NCC, said the organisation mainly supports orphans and vulnerable children.

“We assist the whole community, and we appreciate the school’s gesture as well as the support from the children’s parents. We invite the children to all our programmes,” she said.

The Health and Wellness Committee of Zakheni Primary requested parents to donate food, and the response was better than expected.

The initiative formed part of the school’s Mandela Day programme, which could not be carried out during the July school holidays. The donated food included rice, samp, canned goods and fresh vegetables.
