‘Izimbokodo’ celebration brings community together at Kwa-Thema Library for Women’s Month
The Kwa-Thema Library hosted ward councillors, community groups, and crèche learners in a vibrant celebration of Women’s Month, honouring the strength and resilience of women.
Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema Library commemorated Women’s Month on August 25 through an event titled Izimbokodo (strong, resilient women).
The event welcomed special guests such as ward councillors, SASSA representatives, and staff from the Kwa-Thema Clinic and the Wilson Libone Crèche, who alluded to the importance of observing Women’s Month.
“This month is a powerful reminder of the critical role women have played and continue to play in shaping society. It honours the bravery of the over 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9, 1956, protesting against apartheid pass laws.
“This historic event laid the foundation for recognising women’s rights and equality in the country,” said library cadet Nkoskana Radebe.
Radebe also mentioned that the library cadets are on a mission to reimagine the public library by utilising different channels to boost the library’s reach and impact.
“Libraries are now safe, innovative spaces to dream, think and create. Our motto is ‘the more you know, the more you grow’.”
Nthabiseng Mochesane read a storybook to the learners. The event ended on a joyful note, with singing and cheering.
