Tsakani event honours women’s resilience

The Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation hosted a Women’s Month closing event at Tsakane Hall, where faith, prayer, and solidarity highlighted the resilience of women and the need to address challenges such as GBV and unemployment.

Tsakani – Women from all walks of life gathered at the Tsakane Hall at an event hosted by the Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation in conclusion of Women’s Month on August 29.

The venue was filled with song, prayer, and celebration. Women were honoured for their resilience and uplifted in a society where they face challenges in their workplaces and daily environments.

Nkosinathi Mbonani explained that the main purpose of the event was to celebrate women while also holding a prayer service, particularly given the difficulties many are experiencing in today’s struggling economy.

He emphasised that women deserve recognition, respect, and consistent support from the communities they belong to.

Speakers highlighted the role of men in society, noting that while men are naturally seen as protectors, they are also too often the perpetrators in cases of gender-based violence.

“With women and children being killed almost daily, the event placed GBV and unemployment at the centre of discussion as urgent issues that communities need to address together.

“The celebration also aimed to break down barriers of emotional and gender inequality. The event sought to set an example for men to support women-led initiatives.

“It was a demonstration of solidarity, where women were reminded that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, especially when they have the backing of their communities,” explained Mbonani.

The event received support from the CoE, and was grounded in prayer and faith as the women reflected on the idea that prayer remains a powerful weapon against oppression, particularly for the youth who faces multiple challenges in today’s world.

“One of the most powerful takeaways from the day was the reminder of women’s resilience. Women are resilient and hardworking,” added Mbonani.

The Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation is committed to celebrating and supporting women beyond Women’s Month.

“The spirit of the event was clear and clearly cited that women are the backbone of communities. Celebrating them should never be limited to one day or one month in the year,” he concluded.
