New signwriter joins team to restore the museum artifacts
After nearly two decades of honing his craft, a local sign writer is now leaving his mark at the Springs Mine and Military Museum.
Justice Phakaodo (56), the newest member of the Springs Mine and Military Museum, works as a sign writer.
He recently worked on the World War II Sexton self-propelled artillery gun by repainting its 11 emblems.
“It took me two days to finish working on the Sexton. I thought it would take me longer. I am proud of the final product,” he said.
Phakaodo was introduced to signwriting in 2004 by a friend while working in Pretoria.
“I practiced on my own, and with time I learnt to perfect my skills,” he said.
The museum’s founder, Tony da Cruz, said he was delighted to welcome Phakaodo to the team.
