Church champions dignity with monthly sanitary pad donations
A Kwa-Thema church tackles absenteeism among schoolgirls by donating sanitary pads every month, ensuring no girl misses school because she does not have hygiene products.
Kwa-Thema – The Mahon Evangelical Church of Southern Africa (Mecsa) Kwa-Thema embarked on a transformative community initiative, providing 100 sanitary pads to 100 girls monthly.
As part of this programme, the Mecsa Kwa-Thema adopted 100 girls from Kwa-Thema Primary School. The initiative launched with the distribution of 101 sanitary packs on August 1, followed by 108 packs on September 5.
Samkeliswe Molefe, a member of the Mecsa Katlehong Youth, proposed the idea, which has significantly addressed social injustices affecting young girls in our communities.
“Principal Marcus More opened the school for us to come every first Friday of the month to distribute sanitary packs to these young girls, pray with them and inspire them with words of encouragement.

“We encourage the community, funders and stakeholders to join us in this initiative, with the vision of reaching all primary schools in Kwa-Thema,” said pastor Sinqobile Dube from the Mecsa Kwa-Thema.
The initiative not only touched lives in Kwa-Thema but also inspired Mecsa branches in Katlehong and Spruitview. One of the girls thanked the Mecsa Kwa-Thema, saying the initiative would reduce absenteeism among girls who previously did not have essential hygiene products.
“This programme stands as a beacon of hope and dignity, ensuring that no girl in Kwa-Thema has to miss school because of a lack of sanitary care,” added Dube.
